Teaching Tomorrow's Leaders Today

The Wilderness Education Association was founded in in 1977, and exists today to equip both outdoor leaders and the general public with the judgment and decision-making skills needed to safely enjoy wilderness areas.

Through the WEA, Outdoor leaders and educators can register in the International Registry of Outdoor Educators and Leaders, while outdoor programs can become accredited through the autonomous Accreditation Council.

Perhaps most importantly, the WEA brings together outdoor educators and leaders from around the world at its annual gathering. This year, the 2013 Colloquium on Outdoor Education took place at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Asheville, NC from February 15-17. We had a great time seeing so many familiar and new faces and are excited to share the work that was done during the colloquium -- look for updates on the website very soon!
