Criteria for Presentations
Creativity and innovation are contagious! At the 2012 International Conference on Outdoor Leadership the WEA will be hosting the 2nd Annual Outdoor Leadership Program Symposium (OLPS). During this two-hour event, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a multitude of peer professionals to examine current practices and identify new trends. Each presenter will have ten minutes to introduce and explain their program’s offerings, followed by five minutes of Q&A.
Why participate in the Outdoor Leadership Program Symposium?
With the move to conference workshop tracks focusing on WEA’s Six Core Competencies, we wanted to provide an appropriate place and format for institutions to share their programmatic experiences and successes. We know there are many great programs out there who implement things differently. It is important that we provide an opportunity to provide opportunities to share among peer professionals. Programs have a lot to learn from each other and OLPS will provide a fantastic opportunity to “sample” what other programs are doing, identify ideas that might transfer to your own program and know who exactly you want to talk to during the conference.
The content of the Outdoor Leadership Program Symposium is currently “open” and will be determined based on abstract submissions. OLPS will be a forum for programs to share what they are doing and submissions should certainly encompass ideas and implementation of outdoor leadership training at an administrative, programming, staffing, and or training level.
Some concepts to get the brainstorm started:
-
Staffing issues (training, building a positive staff dynamics, etc.)
-
Accreditation implementation innovations (how are you tackling WEA Accreditation in your program)
-
Breaking down Barriers (getting your boss and your boss’s boss on board, working between academic and student life programming
-
Collaboration (working with multiple WEA affiliates, or community organizations)
-
Anything you do in your program that does not fit neatly into the competency tracks are appropriate content for the Outdoor Leadership Program Symposium!
