The Wilderness Education Association has scheduled all affiliates (as of December 2009) to complete the Accreditation Self study by the end of 2015. The schedule was created to allow an organized and manageable integration of current affiliates into the accreditation program. The schedule also allows for new organizations to begin matriculating through the Self Study process.
Is my organization eligible for Accreditation?
To be eligible for an evaluation by the WEA Accreditation Council (WEAAC), an organization must offer education programs that are specifically designed to prepare students for entry into professional practice as an outdoor leader. The organization must adhere to all of Standards for Accreditation of Education Programs in Outdoor Leadership. Programs must have been actively teaching outdoor leadership programs for a minimum of
two years prior to applying for Accreditation.
How do I begin the process for my organization?
There is currently a waitlist of organizations being managed by the WEA National Office. Each year, depending on the number of Accredited-Provisional institutions being reviewed by the WEAAC, a number of organizations will be invited to begin the Self Study process. Organizations will be invited based on organizational readiness as well as length of time on the wait list.
To be placed on the wait list, interested organizations
should contact Hugh Gibson (hughgibson@missouristate.edu), WEA Affiliate Representative to the Board of Trustees.
