Details for "Winter Travel for Outdoor Educators (1 Day Pre-Conference)"

Winter outdoor recreation is a magical experience, whether it is skiing, mountaineering, or walking in the woods. However, leading inexperienced students into this winter landscape introduces a completely new set of challenges and educational opportunities.
 
Topics in this workshop will include:
   Winter Camping Methods
   Leave No Trace for Winter Camping
   Winter Classroom Considerations
   Risk Management Practices for Winter Travel
 
This workshop will require spending all day outdoors (following a 30 minute orientation).

Speaker Dustin Smucker

Dustin Smucker is the Leisure Programs Coordinator at Indiana University Outdoor Adventures. His early adult years were spent roaming around several of the western states- skiing, climbing, instructing, and becoming a wild mushroom afictionado. He later settled in Northern California and served as the Program Director for Summit Adventure. Dustin earned his M.A. in Experientail Education from MSU, Mankato.
