Wilderness Travel Summer Camp Job Description
For over 25 years, the Hulbert Outdoor Center has been dedicated to helping people enrich and change their lives through experiential outdoor programs.

Our passion to provide an educational outdoor experience shines through from every aspect of our trips; from our use of 'teachable moments' to the daily roles we establish for participants.
We believe that Voyageurs Youth Trips provides one of the strongest wilderness and group experiences available to youth in the area, and realize that our leaders are the most important aspect of our success. As a staff, we work hard to provide a safe and exciting wilderness experience, as well as to create a delicate balance of empowerment, trust, and fun. Required Experience:
Assistant Trip Leader Qualifications
Voyageurs assistant trip leaders are individuals who have a demonstrated ability to conduct competently and independently an extended wilderness experience with a group of 8-10 participants. They must possess the ability to monitor safety, participant well being, and group dynamics throughout the entirety of an intensive program. Voyageurs Assistant Trip Leaders should be:
• At least 19 years old.
• Currently certified as Wilderness First Aid, or higher.
• Currently certified in CPR.
• Experienced working with youth in a wilderness setting.
• Preferably, graduate of a wilderness training program, such as WEA.
Assistant Trip Leaders are paid per diem and are hired per trip. Each trip has 2 paid preparation days before the start of the trip. Leaders usually work a minimum of 2 trips throughout the summer and often choose to work 3 or more trips. Room and board is provided while employed.
Position Reports To: DIrector of Voyageurs Youth Trips
Employment Salary From: $220 to $320 per week
This Job Requires the Following Skills:
Voyageurs Youth trip activities include: rock climbing, backpacking, flat water & white water canoeing, and white water kayaking.
Assistant Trip Leaders should have:
• Solid judgment and decision-making skills.
• Experienced in the form of wilderness travel required by their contracted trip.
• Comfortable living outdoors and teaching outdoor living skills.
• Able to tolerate adversity and uncertainty while creatively solving problems.
• Preferably, certified as Lifeguard. (May be available prior to staff training)

High School Graduate
