Outdoor Rental Resource Center Graduate Assistantship

Job Description
The graduate assistant for the Outdoor Endeavors Program will assist the Coordinator for Experiential Programs in the management and programming of the Outdoor Rental Resource Center & Climbing Wall. The Graduate Assistant will be expected to work an average of 20-25 hours per week. Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
The following is a list of responsibilities that the Graduate Assistant will assist in:
Training
-Assist Coordinator for Experiential Programs with training modules for current and potential Outdoor Endeavors Student Staff.
-Develop & implement training plan for all Outdoor Endeavors Staff including plan for documentation evaluation tools.
-Develop & refine training manuals for the Rental Resource Center.
Scheduling/Staffing
-Recruit, hire, and supervise Outdoor Endeavors Student Staff.
-Schedule and coordinate weekly staff meetings.
-Schedule Student Staff for special events programs & private group programs.
-Create/update staff forms and maintain personnel records.
-Assign and oversee Rental Resource Center staff job responsibilities.
-Coordinate marketing and promotion of Outdoor Endeavors programs and facilities.
-Supervise all scheduling conflicts.
-Work with Marketing Team for recruiting, marketing and promotional events.
-Lead day and weekend programs as necessary.
Fiscal Management
-Assist in preparing budget proposals and annual reports.
-Monitor student wage budget for payroll.
-Monitor maintenance and operations budget.
-Maintain/improve current inventory of rental equipment.
-Purchase equipment, supplies and promotional materials as needed.
-Manage financial transactions at point of sale.
Statistics & Evaluation
-Maintain statistical information of participation in the Outdoor Endeavors Program.
-Manage the income generation of the Outdoor Resource Rental Center.
-Manage the daily operations regarding the Outdoor Endeavors Program income generation during Fall & Spring semesters
-Manage/evaluate risk management at challenge course.
-Evaluate Outdoor Endeavors Student Staff and conduct consistent performance appraisals.
-Assist in the development of surveys and evaluation of Outdoor Endeavors Programs.
-Assist with the preparation and reporting of semester and annual Outdoor Endeavors Program evaluations and assessments.
-Assist with strategic plan development.
Promotion
-Work with Marketing Team to develop effective marketing & promotions.
-Provide text, photos & logistics to the Marketing Team for material production.
-Coordinate the advertising of Outdoor Endeavors with the Graduate Assistant for Marketing.
Professional Development
-Be a member of Student Affairs committees as a representative of the Department of Campus Recreation & Outdoor Endeavors.
-Attend scheduled Campus Recreation professional staff meetings and Outdoor Endeavors or Campus Recreation Advisory Council meetings.
-Attend NIRSA state, regional, and national conferences, as possible.
-Present at professional conferences and workshops.
-Travel to other institutions to learn about and evaluate the policies, procedures, challenges and successes of their programs.
Required Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Experiential Education or related field
Maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester in graduate level classes
Climbing Wall Training & Experience required
CPR and First-Aid required
Wilderness First Aid Certification - preferred
Outdoor Recreation/Education certifications - preferred

Employment Salary From: $1000 month to $1000 month

This is a highly challenging position that requires the graduate assistant to work independently and with a diverse & talented student staff. Interpersonal skills, the ability to manage stress, a huge sense of humor and a desire for personal growth are key to being successful in this position. It is also important that the graduate assistant honest, open and willing about their own ability & limitations. This position requires the GA to do a wide variety of things from handling scheduling, interpersonal conflicts to sweeping the floor and repairing gear. Your willingness, quality of character and leadership skills are equally as important as your work experience & education.
Education Required:
BS in Outdoor Recreation or Leadership
