Education Job Description

  The Graduate Assistant will be afforded an opportunity to gain a variety of experiences within the Recreational Sports Department working approximately 20 hours per week. Assist the Program Coordinator of Outdoor Adventures in the organization, publicity, and administration of the Campus Recreational Services Programs. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

·         Assist in budget preparation, general administration, and student payroll procedures.

·         Assist with the development of guidelines and procedures for both office and trips.

·         Promote involvement opportunities.

·         Present information about Outdoor Adventures during campus wide promotional opportunities. 

·         Plan, organize, supervise, schedule, lead, and evaluate trips and adventure programs.

·         Assist in the planning, execution, and evaluation of department-wide special events.

·         Coordinate the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of trip leaders and shop attendants. 

·         Assist in the management of the outdoor equipment rental program.

·         Track inventory of Outdoor Adventure equipment. 

·         Weekend and evening work will be required.

·         Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

  1.       Admission to University of Nevada Las Vegas Graduate School as a full time graduate student. 2.       Experience with at least two of the following activity areas required with certifications preferred; camping, canoeing, backpacking, snowboarding, rock climbing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, or canyoneering.  3.       Experience with outdoor equipment maintenance preferred. 4.       Must have or be willing to obtain a Nevada drivers license. 5.       Must have strong planning and organizational skills. 6.       Strong verbal and written communication skills. 7.       Computer knowledge and experience preferred.  8.       CPR and Standard First Aid certified. Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness Advanced First Aid preferred. 9.       Must maintain a 3.0 or better Grade Point Average. 10.   Ability to do moderately strenuous work (Equivalent to carrying of objects weighing up to 100 pounds.)

Employment Salary From:   10,000

This Job offers the following Benefits:

TERM OF APPOINTMENT 8/15/08 to 5/31/09 $10,000 Stipend for Masters $12,000 Stipend for Doctorate. Nine month appointment with second year option based on performance. 80% of credit hours up to 10 credits per semester covered. Student health insurance covered.
