| The Wilderness Education Association invites you to consider becoming a candidate for the 2010 Board of Trustees Elections. WEA Board members play a crucial role for the association and are entrusted to provide direction and support towards the mission and vision of the association. BOT Function and Responsibility
The Board of Trustees works closely with the WEA National Office and the Executive Director to ensure that the operations and direction of the association are in line with the mission and vision. Board members serve a three year term, meeting monthly via teleconference and twice annually in person, once at the National Conference on Outdoor Leadership and once for a mid-year meeting. Board members serve either on the Executive Committee or as a Committee Chairperson for the Association. Determination of Committee Chair and Executive Committee positions are determined within the elected Board of Trustees. All candidates are encouraged to attend the National Conference on Outdoor Leadership and attend the informational luncheon with current BOT members on Saturday, February 20, 2010. The luncheon will provide an opportunity to ask questions and to learn more about what it means to serve on the WEA Board of Trustees.
Candidate Eligibility Candidates must meet the following requirements: - Fully paid membership
- Active membership for 3 of the last 5 years (including the year of election)
- 21 years old
- Supportive of the goals and objectives of the Association
- Not seek to use the Association to pursue commercial objectives
- Be consistent with the code of ethics.
Eligibility to serve as a Trustee shall be determined by the current Board of Trustees by majority vote. Ineligible candidates names will be stricken from the ballot.
Candidate information should be submitted to Dr. Mark Wagstaff at mwagstaff@radford.edu no later than February 11, 2010. The following contents are required for candidacy consideration:
1. Position Statement/Letter of Intent: One page statement expressing desire to run, qualifications, aspirations and intent as a potential WEA Board Member. This will be posted on the WEA Website during the election process. (MS Word Format) 2. Biographical Information: Biographical Information – one page or less. Provide personal and professional information to be viewed by the voting membership during elections. 3. Electronic Photograph: To be posted on the WEA Webpage. The slate of candidates will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval no later than February 15th. There are four total BOT seats up for election in 2010. Three seats are for full three year terms as a general member of the board of Trustees. These positions will be voted on by the active WEA membership. These three positions will be eligible for Executive Committee and Committee Chair positions on the Board of Trustees. The fourth seat up for election is the Affiliate Representative position which serves on the Executive Committee for a three year term. This position is the voice of the collective WEA Accredited Affiliates. The Affiliate Representative is not eligible for any other position within the BOT and is voted on only by the Affiliate Representatives of WEA Accredited Institutions. The three year terms for each of the four positions will commence in June of 2010. Newly elected members should plan to attend the July mid-year meeting in person. Dates and Location TBD.
Elections will begin on April 1, 2010 and will end April 14, 2010. As in the past, elections will be held through the WEA website. All current WEA members are encouraged to vote for these important positions.
