Not To Be Missed - the 2010 National Conference on Outdoor Leadership!

Planning for the 2010 National Conference on Outdoor Leadership is well underway. The Wilderness Education Association events committee is working diligently to bring you another great conference in Estes Park, CO.

Risk and Reward: Protecting What We Value is the theme of the 2010 conference. The concepts of Risk and Reward are a common thread in the outdoor industry. Actual, perceived, social, emotional, environmental, and physical ; all risks that professionals in the outdoor industry face on a daily basis. When the idea of risk and reward is combined with the concept of protecting what we value, the theme is powerful and allows presenters freedom to connect with the many things we value as outdoor professionals.

With workshops focused on the WEA's revised curriculum, you can look to see the six core competencies emphasized throughout the event:

Outdoor Living

Planning and Logistics

Risk Management

Leadership

Environmental Integration

Education

The webpages for the upcoming event will be udpated as information becomes available. Expect to see the Call for Proposals for both pre-conference workshops as well as regular conference workshops coming down the pipe in the next couple of weeks.

The YMCA of the Rockies is moving through a series of renovations to make their campus more conducive to professional conferences. With newly built lodges and meeting facilities the venue promises to be a fantastic site for a gathering of outdoor professionals and students from around the country. Between the conference and the beautiful backdrop attendees can expect to have no shortage of learning, networking, sharing and adventuring at their fingertips!

Mark you calendars for February 17-20 and start seeking out funding opportunities and grants from your universities and local outdoor organizations today!
