The Wilderness Education Association (WEA) supports the following levels of Outdoor Education instruction:

OUTDOOR ENTHUSIAST

WEA Education for Outdoor Enthusiasts combines essential expertise, comprehension and adventurous spirit needed to uphold health and safety standards for short-term experiences in the outdoors.

OUTDOOR LEADER

Leadership training with WEA begins with exposure to the six fundamentals of outdoor education; Outdoor Living, Planning & Logistics, Leadership, Risk Management, Environmental Integration and Education. Students receive a Certificate of Completion as well as the ability to teach the WEA’s Outdoor Enthusiast curriculum.

OUTDOOR EDUCATOR

Outdoor Education professionals will be evaluated based on WEA’s six educational components; Outdoor Living, Planning & Logistics, Leadership, Risk Management, Environmental Integration and Education. Professionals will complete the class with the ability to instruct WEA’s Outdoor Leader and Outdoor Enthusiast curriculum.

CERTIFYING EXAMINER

Curriculum for Certifying Examiner professionals will guide students with valuable insight with multiple assessment and evaluation techniques. Certifying Examiner educators may obtain Terminal status through continued education as noted in the official *Certification Manual. Prerequisite: Outdoor Educator Certification*
