Description

The Student Representative on the Board of Directors serves as the voice and advocate for students and student issues. The Student Representative assists the Board of Directors

in the management of student affairs and with the governance of the WEA.


Term of Duty

The position is one year in duration and may reapply for the following year.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point-of-contact for students (both WEA members and non).

  • Serve as the liaison between students and the Board.

  • Participate in the monthly Board meeting (virtual).

  • Participate in the mid-year Board retreat (virtual).

  • Assist the National Office with the WEA scholarship programs.

  • Assist the National Office with securing pro deals for WEA members.

  • Coordinate the Service Crew at the annual conference (if they are able to attend).

  • The student representative is a non-voting board member. 


Expectations

  • Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions.

  • Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and confidentiality agreement and update both during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all internal matters of the organization.

  • Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs.

  • Serve as an active advocate and ambassador for the WEA.

  • Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization.

  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in monthly board meetings (teleconference).

  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in two board retreats (fall and spring; may attend virtually).

  • Participate in one or more WEA Committee(s) of interest.


Candidate Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled in higher education.

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Current active WEA membership.
